Recently, Ray from Chinese Bites invited a bunch of us lucky bloggers to experience a plethora of 37 dim sum items off their menu. I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times because Meta Knight lives nearby. His brother also actually had his wedding reception here as well!
It’s located on the second floor of Crystal Mall and is probably one of the more popular destinations within the mall.
You can never go wrong with BBQ Pork Pastry and Baked Pineapple Buns with BBQ Pork. My favourite is always the pineapple buns with BBQ filling because it’s the best of both worlds. If you’ve never tried it because you thought it was a weird mix of sweet and salty, you must forget that preconceived notion because the combination is bomb.
These Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls were pretty standard. Freshly fried and crispy so thumbs up.
I didn’t get to try the Panfried Chinese pancake with leeks so I can’t speak to them but the looked pretty good. The Deep Fried Shrimp Gyozas in the back were not that great though.
Who doesn’t love these Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Dumplings?? They’re so fantastic and oh so bad for you. 😀
I wasn’t a huge fan of the Smoked Salmon with Fruit Salad Tart and a lot of people didn’t try it. Not sure why but I think the combination was a little weird.
This one was executed really really well. It’s the Steamed Rice Roll with Deep Fried Fish Paste.
Behind the scenes look at food bloggers doing their thang. 😛
I love mushrooms so I inherently loved the Steamed Rice Rolls with Mushrooms. They were earthy, fragrant, and really light on the palate.
This was pretty standard. Pan Fried Radish Cake and Taro Cake.
Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean. They were standard and very meaty. Two thumbs up.
I also thought the Chicken Feet and Steamed Chicken Buns were really good.
While I liked the Tendon, I really didn’t like the Shanghai Soup Dumplings (XLBs). They had no soup inside and the wrapper was way too thick.
The Steamed Shrimp, Mushroom, and Mixed Vegetable Dumplings were quite large in size and super delicious.
The Har Gow also known as shrimp dumplings were done very well. Juicy, plump, and buoyant in texture.
I don’t LOVE Beef Stomach so it was only okay in my opinion.
I also am not a huge lover of egg tarts (I know! The HORROR!) but all in all they were flaky and rich in flavour.
This Red Rice Roll with Deep Fried Shrimp was surprisingly delicious! I would totally get it again though I have no idea why they had to make the rice roll red. It made the dish unique though!
Dim Sum GALORE!!!
Victory Seafood Restaurant is a pretty good option for dim sum in the Burnaby area but overall I wouldn’t say it is on par with other fancier dim sum restaurants like Kirin.
