The Flying Pig- I Must Try Their Entire Menu!

I went to The Flying Pig in Yaletown a while ago with FW,
Rae, Lil Sis, and Yoshi but I didn’t want to write a post on it until now because I
wanted to really take time and do this restaurant justice.

We heard of long line ups at The Flying Pig but we
surprisingly got a table (for 5 too!) pretty quickly. I believe they don’t take
reservations. But don’t quote me on that.

We didn’t drink any wine during the dinner but I might want
to next time because I could see red or white wine pairing really well with
some of their entrees.

They started us off with some bread and EVOO/balsamic
vinegar.

The special of the day was Roasted Rack of Pork with Bone Marrow Mash Potatoes and Asparagus ($25.00). With that description
how could anyone NOT get this? Plus, I’ve never had rack of pork before so FW
and I shared this entree along with three sides. This rack of pork was the most
delicious, juiciest, flavourful hunk of pork I’ve ever had. I can’t even begin
to describe to you how large this rack was…

This picture might give you a better idea of how thick this piece of pork was. Anyways, FW and I couldn’t stop fawning over how delectable it
was.

One suggestion when you are at The Flying Pig: Share an
entree and get a bunch of sides. The sides are amazing and inexpensive when you see the portion size. After a regrettably long and indecisive session, FW and I settled on the
Lobster and Prawn Risotto ($9.00) as one of our three sides.
There were large chunks of lobster and prawns in the risotto which was great.

This picture really didn’t do the mushrooms justice but these
Whole Roasted Mushrooms ($5.00) were scrumptious. Each and every one of those mushroom buttons was bursting
with juices.

(Sorry for the blurry picture!) If you normally never eat
brussel sprouts because you think they taste bad, you might want to try this.
These
Crispy Brussel Sprouts ($5.00) might
just change your mind. The brussel sprouts were either fried or baked with
lemon, parmesan, and capers. Such a lovely combination. FW and I were both in
love with this side.
  Ever since our
encounter with these lovely sprouts, she has been wanting to recreate this at
home.

Yoshi was the only person who didn’t get the rack of pork
and he ordered the
Wild Seafood
Pappardelle ($18.00)
instead. It had an abundance of mussels, salmon, and
prawns in a spicy rose sauce. The pappardelle was cooked to the perfect
consistency and did a nice job of holding all the sauce.

After the spectacular and belt-removing worthy meal, we were
going to get the bill when our waitress came up to us and asked “Did you want
to hear about our dessert special?”.
  All
of us were full but of course we couldn’t resist HEARING the special… And
guess what happened. She sold us. Both Yoshi and Rae ordered dessert and
FW and I were so close to ordering too even though we were both bursting at the
seams.

Yoshi ordered the dessert special which was the Cinnamon Bun Bread Pudding with Vanilla
Ice-Cream.
His bread pudding was HUGE! It also had a strong cinnamon
flavour and was densely packed. I think Yoshi would have preferred a little
more sauce though to make the bread less dry.

Rae got the Vanilla
Creme Brulee ($7.00)
and she said it was the best crème brulee she’s ever
had.

Her favorite part was the torched sugar top because she said it
was done perfectly.

To sum it all up, this is now currently my favourite
restaurant. 😀 I came in expecting a good meal, but I didn’t know it was going
to be THAT good.  Everything was spot on.
From the service, to the quality ingredients, to the spectacular food, they did
everything right to ensure we had a great time. I particularly appreciate the
fact that this restaurant keeps it low key and appropriately priced even though
it is situated in the heart of Yaletown. This place is not to be mistaken for a
snobby hyped up eatery. This place is a gem.
