Most Vancouverites by now have heard of Science of Cocktails presented by the TELUS World of Science. During that night, the Science World Dome is transformed into an evening of ‘adult’ celebration and showcases the best of the best in gastronomy, chemistry, biology, and physics in bartending and culinary skill.
Having gone to Science of Cocktails three years in a row, imagine my excitement when I heard about this new event they are hosting called Pairings! Pairings is a gourmet evening filled with science and it is in partnership with La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and select wineries from BC’s Golden Mile Bench.
Scientific food and wine pairings are created using chemistry principles such as mixing acids and fats, sugars and spices, and then using alcohols and tannins to compete with the intensity of the food. Tickets to Pairings even include an exclusive viewing of Science World’s newest exhibition The Science Behind Pixar!
The participating restaurants include Miradoro Restaurant at Tinhorn Creek, Showcase Restaurant & Bar, Notch8 Restaurant & Bar at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, and Chau Veggie Express. For wineries, Hester Creek, Road 13 Vineyards, Fairview Cellars, Tinhorn Creek, Rust Wine Co., and Stoneboat Vineyards will be present as well.
One last thing, all proceeds will benefit Science World’s Super Science Club, an after-school program that provides science and technology activities to underserved students in grades 1-7.
Tickets are $125 and available at scienceworld.ca/pairings. Prices include a $50 tax receipt.
Hope to see you there!
