On Main street, there lies a secret hidden gem for those who enjoy frosty treats on a hot summer day. It’s called Innocent Ice-Cream and they specialize in gluten free ice-cream sandwiches!
They opened not too long ago and already the news of their existence has spread like wild fire. They invited me to come try their ice-cream sandwiches so I took Meta Knight with me to enjoy.
Their ice-cream sandwiches are set at $6.95 (includes one scoop of ice-cream, sandwiched between two gluten free cookies), and you can choose from a variety of predetermined flavour combos. Double Dark, Salty Peanut, Fairytale, Shortcake…etcc are just some of the available flavour combinations.
For those who want a bit of coffee with their ice-cream, they also serve the staples, along with ice-cream + espresso (affogato!!!)
Some of their flavours include Vanilla, Coffee, Chocolate, Wild Cherry, and Mint Chip. Vegans, don’t fret, because there are some for you as well!
I went with the Cherry Bomb ice-cream sandwich which had a GIANT scoop of wild cherry ice-cream, sandwiched between two double chocolate chip cookies. Honestly, I couldn’t even tell that the cookie was gluten free, and after having had the sandwich, I wanted purchase a dozen more to take home!
Meta Knight on the other hand tried the Shortcake which had strawberry ice-cream nestled between two white chocolate chip cookies. I thought his strawberry ice-cream was better than the cherry, but both were still incredibly delicious. The sandwiches were so big we had to eat them with a spoon.
All in all, even though the Vancouver ice-cream scene is completely saturated, Innocent Ice-Cream remains an excellent addition to the line of ice cream shops we have to choose from. I think they’ll do really well because their concept is unique, and they have clearly perfected their craft. The prices are steep yet competitive so can’t really complain there.
